Well fitted windows make a home warmer, quieter and more secure. We replace tired windows and external doors, fit new windows into renovated openings, and finish the surrounding plaster, facings and decoration so the job is complete inside and out.
For traditional homes we also overhaul existing sash and case windows, which can often be made smooth running and much less draughty without replacing the frames.
What is included
- Replacement windows in timber, uPVC and aluminium
- Timber sash and case windows
- Sash and case repairs, new cords and weights
- Draught proofing for sash windows
- External and internal doors
- Secondary glazing
- Making good plaster and facings
- Sealing and finishing
In conservation areas and on listed buildings, replacement windows often need to match the originals in material and design, and may need planning permission or listed building consent. We check what applies to your property before anything is ordered.
How the work runs
- Survey and measure. We measure each opening and check the condition of the existing frames.
- Choose and quote. We talk through repair, secondary glazing and replacement options and give you a clear quote.
- Install. Old frames come out and new windows are fitted, packed, fixed and sealed.
- Finish. Plaster, facings and decoration around each window are made good.
Windows for Edinburgh tenements and townhouses
Sash and case windows are a defining feature of Edinburgh streets. Replacing them in a tenement or conservation area can involve neighbours and the council, while repairing them is often simpler and keeps the original look. We give you an honest view of whether repair, secondary glazing or replacement is the better option for your home.
Window Fitting FAQs
Should I repair or replace my sash windows?
If the frames are largely sound, repair and draught proofing is often cheaper and keeps the original character. Replacement makes more sense where timber is badly decayed.
Do I need permission to replace my windows?
If your home is listed or in a conservation area, you may need consent. Many Edinburgh properties fall into one or both, so we always check first.
Do you make good after fitting?
Yes. We finish the plaster, facings and decoration around new windows so there is nothing left for another trade.
